Dr Zartash Afzal Uzmi’s Promotion to Full Professor
We are pleased to announce the promotion of Dr Zartash Afzal Uzmi to Full Professor in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering LUMS. This achievement reflects Dr Uzmi’s significant contributions to research, teaching, and service, as well as his commitment to academic excellence.
Dr Uzmi earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, focusing on multi-user detection for CDMA systems. He joined LUMS in 2002 and has since played a vital role in shaping the academic landscape. His research areas include network design, routing and traffic engineering, internet censorship, blockchain technologies, and IoT devices. With over 50 published papers in leading journals and conferences, Dr Uzmi's work has made notable theoretical and practical contributions.
He has served as a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute in Germany and as a Visiting Professor at Chonbuk National University in South Korea. Dr Uzmi has also contributed to national IT and telecom policy through his roles on the Prime Minister’s Task Force on IT & Telecom and the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC).
In addition to his academic achievements, he has co-founded several successful software companies, including Confiz Systems and WiMetrix.
