As the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering has grown, our alumni have also grown and have made the institution proud wherever they have gone. Our increasing network of alumni symbolizes excellence in education and practice.
Out of a total 14,000 alumni which LUMS has, SBASSE boasts about 3000 alumni actively working in various walks of life, be it corporate or philanthropic organizations or academia. Even before the inception of the School as a formal entity, SBASSE offered degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. Hence, the maximum number of alumni belong to these areas of specialization. Quantitatively, as we write this (as of 2021), 80% of our alumni hail from computer science and engineering.
Remarkably many of our alumni opted for academia and have completed their PhDs from some of the top universities abroad. This trend is particularly pertinent for our basic sciences programmes, indicating how these smaller departments have been able to fire the quest for learning and scientific discovery. So far (in 2021), around 170 alumni from SBASSE are enrolled in or completed PhD's from the world's top institutions, with the highest numbers in biology and chemistry. Around 70 students have also graduated from SBASSE with PhD degrees.
