Biography          

Prior to joining LUMS Madiha was working with a think tank at the National Defence University (NDU) Islamabad for Global and Regional Studies Branch where she contributed to policy making for various national security matters, programs and courses. She has also worked for multiple donor-funded projects as a Project Manager for the development sector in Pakistan. She possesses strong communication, management, and leadership skills along with vast experience of working with diverse and large group of people from the civil society and the government. She holds a Masters in Project Management and a Bachelors in IT. Madiha likes to identify as an INFJ-A and a minimalist plasticarian who lives on zero waste.

Biography:      

Nida Khan, a graduate in Environmental Engineering from UET, Lahore, brings a wealth of technical and industrial experience to her environmental pursuits. Her tenure at UET equipped her with a solid foundation in environmental engineering. Nida's passion for conservation led her to WWF-Pakistan, where she excelled in facilitating collaborations between corporate entities and spearheaded tree plantation campaigns across multiple universities. She's been instrumental in creating educational materials and delivering presentations to academic institutions and corporations, actively promoting environmental awareness.       

Additionally, Nida played a vital role in the "International Labor and Environmental Standards Application” in Pakistan's SME’s project, supported by the European Union, showcasing her commitment to advancing environmental and labour standards. Her dedication extends to the apparel industry, where she advocates for sustainability, fostering dialogues and sustainable practices.

Biography           

Dr. Azam obtained her PhD in Mathematics from the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences (ASSMS), GCU, Lahore, 2013. She was awarded the French Embassy Split – PhD Fellowship at the Institut de Mathematiques de Jussieu (IMJ), Paris, France, during her doctorate studies.

Dr. Azam has publications in well-reputed journals, and her research interests include Algebraic and Geometric Topology, Floer Homology, and Lower Dimensional Topology.

Professor Dr. Walther Schwarzacher

Biography           

Professor Schwarzacher is a Professor of Physics and Dean Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Prof. Schwarzacher has a wealth of experience in senior academic roles in the UK. He has served as a Professor of Physics at the University of Bristol since 2005. His research interests span a variety of topics in electrochemistry, nanoscale physis, materials physics, and ice nucleation which is an important process for environmental and atmospheric studies. He also held the position of Chair of the Electrodeposition Division of the Electrochemical Society from 2005 to 2007.  

Having published widely, Professor Schwarzacher has mentored more than thirty PhD students and is a firm proponent of interdisciplinary research. He has been awarded a School of Physics Teaching Award thrice. As part of his priorities for the School of Science and Engineering at LUMS, and derived from his own multifaceted interests, he has already shown deep interest in launching new areas and deepening interconnections between existing strengths in the School.  

Professor Schwarzacher has an established career in building international networks in research and learning. With an experience spanning over multiple continents, he has built learning groups of research students through an international mentoring programme that he designed and developed at Bristol and for which he received the University Education Award. In his role as the Graduate Dean at the Bristol School of Physics, he has been a major proponent of student welfare and the growth of new research opportunities for graduate students. He was also a member of Bristol University's Senate.
