LUMS Kaargah

The LUMS Kaargah is an extension to the SBASSE Building. The LUMS Kaargah project was initiated in November 2020 and subsequent to appropriate approvals, is now being commissioned to the SBA School of Science and Engineering (in June 2023).

Goals

The Kaargah is meant to serve as a field laboratory with the following goals.

• Building industrial liaison through invitation-based setups for industrial testing and calibration. This includes a Water Lab to serve Pakistan’s industrial sector.
• Invitations to the industry to install test rigs and R&D stations. These rigs could be full-scale replica of industrial units meant for student training or research contracted out to the SSE Faculty.
• Providing an arena for experimental work where open spaces are required such as for mobility, field robotics, aerial vehicles, and airborne experiments (on the rooftop).
• Workspace for design, and small-scale production.
• Making available an area where one-off isolation is required.
• An animal house to be run by the Department of Life Sciences, inside a pre-assigned space.
• A plant house to be managed by the Department of Life Sciences, in an exclusively demarcated space.
• The cricket lab, to be run by Dr. Muhammad Awais of the Department of Computer Science.

صنعتی آلات کی جانچ اور ان کی پیمانہ بندی کے لیے مختلف صنعتوں سے رابطہ قائم کرنا۔ اس میں  پاکستان کے صنعتی شعبے کی خدمت کے لیے واٹر لیب بھی شامل ہے۔

 صنعتوں کو تحقیق کے لیے مشینری لگانے کے لیے جگہ مہیا کرنا۔ یہ تنصیبات صنعتی اکائیوں کی مکمل نقل ہو سکتی ہیں جن کا مقصد طلبہ کی تربیت ہو یا پھر تحقیق کے لیے معاونت فراہم کرنا ہو۔ ان تنصیبات کے ذریعے اساتذہ کے ساتھ مشاورتی معاہدے کرنا بھی ممکن ہو پائے گا۔

 تجرباتی کام کے لیے ایک ایسا میدان فراہم کرنا جہاں کھلی جگہوں کی ضرورت ہو جیسے نقل و حرکت، فیلڈ روبوٹکس، فضائی آلات، اور ہوا میں چلانے والے تجربات (چھت پر)۔ چھوٹے پیمانے پر آلات کی پیداوار کے لیے مخصوص جگہ مہیّا کرنا۔ 

 ایسی جگہ دستیاب کرنا جہاں پر اپنی خاص نوعیت کی وجہ سے علیحدگی میں تجربات کرنا مقصود ہو۔ لمز کار گاہ میں ایک جانوروں کا گھر جسے شعبہء حیاتیات پہلے سے تجویز کردہ جگہ کے اندر چلائے گا۔

لمز کارگاہ ہی میں ایک پودوں کا گھر بھی مختص ہے جس کا انتظام شعبہء حیاتیات کے ذریعے پر مخصوص جگہ پر کیا جائے گا۔

 کارگاہ میں کرکٹ لیب کو شعبہء کمپیوٹر سائنس کے ڈاکٹر محمد اویس کی زیر نگرانی میں چلایا جائے گا۔

Management

The Kaargah will be managed by the SSE Dean's Office. Mr. Eaitsam Akram (m.akram@lums.edu.pk) who will manage access and control, through the provision of a numerical code to access the premises. Access will be pre-authorized. Apply for access, see below.

Rules

• LUMS Kaargah will provide temporary space for various initiatives.
• This will be a shared space and authorized users are expected to show respect and understanding to co-workers.
• This facility is available for only prescribed areas and for time-bound activities. Time limits will be specified.
• This is not an office space and therefore it cannot be used as a permanent workspace or storage of supplies.
• Do not share the facility access code with anyone. In case of non-compliance, access will be revoked.
• Apply for access the facility, please fill out the given form with the necessary details.
