Biography

Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh is Director of the Usher Institute at University of Edinburgh.  He is also Dean of Data for The University of Edinburgh, Director of the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research (AUKCAR), Director of the Scottish Allergy and Respiratory Academy (SARA), and Co-Director of the NHS Digital Academy Digital Health Leadership Programme. Sir Aziz holds a number of visiting chairs, including University of Birmingham (UK), Queen Mary’s University of London (UK) and Maastricht University (Netherlands).  He was previously Visiting Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

He is an editorial board member of BMC Medicine, Health Informatics Journal, Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, Medical Care and PLOS Medicine, and is Editor-in-Chief of npj: Primary Care Respiratory Medicine. 
Sir Aziz was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for Services to Medicine and Health Care by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2014, and received knighthood for services to COVID-19 research and policy in 2022.
