Invited Summer Courses on the Jet Engine and Stars/Galaxies
This second summer semester of 2021 brings a bouquet of riveting courses from the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering. We are excited to add two ‘invited courses’ to our list that ought to invigorate the semester’s overall experience. These are ‘The Jet Engine’ and ‘Stars and Galaxies’.
Stars and Galaxies: Unveiling the Deep, Dark Secrets of our Universe
The calcium in our teeth, nitrogen in our DNA and the carbon in our nails–every single element inside us can be traced back to the violent destruction of some star out there in the deepest corners of deep space. We are descendants of stellar ancestors–simply stardust. Join Dr. Shaukat Goderya, Director of Astronomy Education at Tarleton University, in exploring what makes the universe the way it is and why studying space science really matters. Take an inside look at the grandiose of stellar formation and what resides inside big, beautiful spiral star cities. Finally, once you’ve conquered the realm of what we know about stars and galaxies, prepare yourself, through this course, to ascend to the magnificent territory of the known unknowns: Cosmology and the Big Bang Theory!

The Jet Engine: Introduction to Aircraft Propulsion
Further, befriend the invention that powers modern day economy, trade, and politics, namely the 'jet Engine!'. With the course unusually named after an invention, 'The Jet Engine', take off with Dr. Talha Jamal Pirzada from the University of Oxford, and soar into the stratosphere. The jet engine is truly one of humankind's most compelling and complex feats of engineering. This one-of-a-kind course will be a pilgrimage into the marvel of human ingenuity. A mélange of aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, combustion and thermodynamics, materials engineering and mechanics, this course can take you places.
