Description

The Office of the Dean, at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering is looking for an individual with a passion to create exciting and fascinating stories, blogs, news, features and reviews of scientific and technological research and education underway at the School. This position is an important link between the scientific community and the public.

This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts or requirements associated with the job. The department reserves the right to alter/revise the job or require that different/additional tasks be performed as assigned.

Responsibilities

1. Developing scripts or storyboards for documentaries, interviews

2. Writing reviews of technical articles in all scientific disciplines that are comprehensible to the laity

3. Preparing content of graphic work for announcements of forthcoming scientific activities

4. Liaison with the media and the press

5. Maintaining and writing for a science blog and science magazine

6. Creating news items for dispatch to the larger community

7. Supervising interns and students in the art of science communication

Skills and Attributes

1. The candidate should possess demonstrated experience (testified by written examples of prior work) with some subset of the following:

2. Writing exciting science stories in the form of a blog, video log, news, features, documentaries, magazine articles etc,

3. Should be well versed in at least one discipline of science but must possess a broad training or interest in a wide range of scientific disciplines

4. Should be proficient in both English and in Urdu

5. Must possess a penchant for appreciating scientific art

Minimum Qualification

A Bachelors/Masters degree in science or engineering.  An international degree in science journalism or science communication is a plus.

Experience

2 years or more of relevant experience. However, this can be relaxed for exceptional candidates.
