Abstract
Two sufficiently good mirrors facing each other constitute a microcavity that can confine photons. If an atom or molecule with appropriate electronic excitations is placed inside such a microcavity, the interaction between the light and matter can lead to the formation of hybrid excitations called polaritons. I will talk about some interesting properties of polaritons and their effect on various materials' properties.
