Basit Shafiq received the B.S. degree in Electronics Engineering from the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University, USA. He is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan, where he also serves as the Director of the Center for Digital Assets Research (CeDAR). He previously served as the Chair of the Department of Computer Science at LUMS. Prior to joining LUMS, he was a Research Assistant Professor at Rutgers University, USA. His research interests include security and privacy, distributed systems, cloud and edge computing, services computing, blockchain, and AI-enabled workflow management.
His research has been published extensively in leading IEEE and ACM journals and presented at premier international conferences. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for several leading IEEE and ACM journals and as an Editorial Board Member of international journals in information security and cybersecurity. His research has been supported by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), SAP Research Labs, and the European Union. He is the recipient of the IEEE Technical Community on Services Computing Research Innovation Award (2024) and is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
