March 19, 2025 — The Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) at LUMS hosted its annual ceremony, bringing together representatives from Shalamar Medical and Dental College (SMDC), SBASSE faculty, and students to celebrate academic collaboration and achievement.

The event was attended by guests from SMDC, including Dr. M. Zahid Bashir (Professor and Principal), Mr. Khawar Aziz, Mr. Ali Khan and Mr. Atif Usmani. Faculty members from LUMS, including Dr. Zaigham Shahzad, Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Dr. Muhammad Shoaib, and Dr. Walther (Dean SBASSE), also participated.

During the ceremony, students who successfully completed the program and received their certificates were Muhammad Arbaz Gondal, AsadUllah Nadeem, Fatima Asad, and Muhammad Ali Imtiaz.

A key event highlight was a discussion on expanding the program's reach and impact. It was mutually agreed that the initiative should be extended to all students enrolled in the MBBS program at Shalamar to provide them with enhanced learning opportunities. The institutions also decided to develop structured summer workshops to further enrich medical education and practical training.

The event reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to fostering excellence in medical education through continuous collaboration and innovation.

Students Testimonial:

"My exchange program was an incredible experience that deepened my love for molecular biology and hands-on lab work. I got to work with amazing mentors and peers while learning key wet lab techniques like PCR, gel electrophoresis, and gene cloning. Getting hands-on experience in the lab made everything I had studied before feel more real and exciting.
Beyond the lab, I met some brilliant people who challenged me to think critically and work collaboratively. The experience boosted my confidence, sharpened my problem-solving skills, and made me even more passionate about research.
I’m so grateful for this opportunity—it was a game-changer, and I can’t wait to use everything I’ve learned!
" - Fatima Asad

"Joining the LUMS MBBS Enrichment Program has been a transformative experience for me. It goes beyond traditional medical education, fostering critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and interdisciplinary learning. The program has exposed me to diverse fields, from molecular biology to genetics, equipping me with skills essential for modern healthcare. I’ve gained invaluable insights into cutting-edge medical advancements with access to world-class faculty, advanced laboratories, and a dynamic academic environment. This program has expanded my horizons, strengthened my research skills, and deepened my passion for innovation in medicine. It’s an incredible opportunity for anyone looking to make a real impact." - Asad Ullah Nadeem

"Looking back, LUMS was an experience I never thought I would have, Alhumdulillah—the people, the faculty, the environment, everything. I came as someone who simply intended to be a healthcare person to realise that it is not all about books, that as doctors, soft skills are equally necessary. I had the opportunity to learn the basics and depth of life sciences and research, got the chance to interact with the student body and gained knowledge that will help me in my next 5 years of medicine, InShaAllah. When I think about it, the program did well in establishing scientific skills and encouraging doctors to think along logic and science and formulate a solution. I believe that if anyone spends their year here wisely, it can be a very enriching and fun time!" - Muhammad Arbaz Gondal

"The MBBS Enrichment Program at LUMS strengthened my medical foundation through bio courses like molecular biology, biochemistry, virology, etc. At the same time, hands-on lab research under expert professors refined my scientific skills. My primary goal was to explore beyond medicine, and LUMS provided that opportunity through business and arts courses, including entrepreneurship and other classes, broadening my perspective. Being a hostelite allowed me to connect with students from across Pakistan, fostering meaningful relationships. Engaging in student societies and co-curricular activities enhanced my leadership and teamwork skills, making this program a truly transformative experience." - Muhammad Ali Imtiaz
