Theeee discipline of Electrical Engineering (EE) has had the same impact, if not greater, on human civilisation as the invention of the steam engine, printing press and air travel. Major milestones of the modern era such as long distance wireless communication, medical diagnostics, solar and wind energies etc. owe their existence to electrical engineers. The EE programme at SBASSE is designed in a manner that allows students to be well-prepared to contribute to the rapidly changing and expanding needs of technology.
The EE curriculum gives students a strong foundation due to emphasis on basic sciences and the development of excellent engineering skills through carefully planned core and elective courses. EE students also learn through a combination of design and lab work. The EE curriculum covers the essential depth and breadth needed for contemporary professional practice. Four important concentration areas of interest have been identified; (i) Communications, Signals and Systems; (ii) Electronics and Embedded Systems; (iii) Devices, Optics and Electromagnetics; and (iv) Modern Power and Energy Systems. A range of elective courses are also offered in these concentration areas giving opportunity to students to specialise in one or more streams. Keeping in mind the multi-disciplinary nature of this field, students are strongly encouraged to integrate courses from other disciplines at SBASSE such as Physics, Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Chemistry.
The world-class, research-active faculty in the EE department is involved in solving important issues pertaining to a wide range of subjects such as communication technologies, power systems, embedded microelectronics, optics, VLSI design and control systems. Students at both the undergraduate and graduate level have the opportunity to interact closely with faculty and learn to conduct research and contribute to the frontiers of knowledge.
